    Spider, later known as Shanghai, was a New York rock band that kicked off in the late ’70s and made a small but memorable mark on early ’80s radio. Fronted by singer Amanda Blue and powered by songwriter‑keyboardist Holly Knight, they blended catchy pop hooks with hard‑rock energy. They scored a Top 40 hit with “New Romance (It’s a Mystery),” and a couple of their songs were later turned into bigger hits by artists like Tina Turner and John Waite. In 1982 they switched their name to Shanghai and released one last album before calling it a day, leaving behind a short but influential run.
