    Sylvia Jane Kirby, born December 9, 1956, in Kokomo, Indiana, is an American country and pop singer and songwriter who rose to fame in the early 1980s performing under the single name Sylvia. After moving to Nashville to pursue music, she began working as a record-label secretary before earning a recording contract and launching a successful career. Her upbeat, pop-leaning country sound produced a string of hit songs during the 1980s, most notably the crossover single “Nobody” in 1982. Over the years she has released numerous albums, sold millions of records, continued touring and recording, and later expanded her work into songwriting and life coaching while remaining active in the music industry.
