The Human League started out in Sheffield, England in the late 1970s, experimenting with synthesizers when most bands were still focused on guitars. Led by Philip Oakey, they reshaped their lineup in 1980 and struck gold with a mix of catchy electronic hooks and striking visuals. Their live shows often featured dramatic lighting and a futuristic vibe, pushing music into a new electronic era. Their album Dare produced the massive hit Don’t You Want Me, which became one of the defining songs of the 1980s.
