Daryl Hall and John Oates met in Philadelphia in the late '60s and officially teamed up in 1970. Hall had the golden voice, and Oates brought slick guitar and smooth backing vocals. Together, they blended rock, R&B, and soul into a style known as “blue-eyed soul”, which was basically soul music made by talented white artists. They weren’t just one-hit wonders either! They cranked out hit after hit like “Rich Girl,” “Private Eyes,” “Maneater,” and “Kiss on My List.” Their songs were radio gold, full of hooks you couldn’t forget. At one point, they were the most successful duo in music history, with more Top 40 hits than any other pair. But they weren’t flashy, they just knew how to write songs that stuck.
