    Larry Coryell was an American guitarist born in 1943 who became one of the earliest players to mix jazz with the energy and volume of rock, helping kick‑start what later became known as jazz‑fusion. He first made waves in the late ’60s with groups led by Chico Hamilton and Gary Burton, then pushed the style even further with his own band, The Eleventh House.
