    Carlos Chávez was a major Mexican composer, conductor, and music leader in the 20th century, born in 1899 in Mexico City. He helped shape modern Mexican classical music by blending traditional Latino Indigenous sounds with contemporary styles, giving his work a strong national identity. Chávez also played a big role outside of composing. He conducted orchestras, directed Mexico’s National Conservatory, and promoted music education across the country. One of his most famous works, Sinfonía India, uses native instruments and rhythms to reflect Mexico’s cultural roots.
