    Bob Wills was an American bandleader, born in 1905, who helped create and popularize Western swing, which is a lively mix of country, jazz, blues, and dance music built for big bands and dance halls. He led Bob Wills & Texas Playboys and turned fiddles, horns, and drums into a sound that was both rural and jazzy, influencing later country and rock music. Known as the “King of Western Swing,” he kept dance floors packed across the Southwest for decades.
