Released at a time when David Bowie was constantly reinventing himself, Diamond Dogs is a dark, cinematic album that blends gritty classic rock with a dystopian story inspired in part by George Orwell’s 1984. Rather than revisiting the glam-rock style that made him famous, Bowie created a strange, post-apocalyptic world filled with danger, rebellion, and larger-than-life characters. Featuring the hit single “Rebel Rebel,” the album captures Bowie at one of his most adventurous creative peaks, combining theatrical storytelling, raw guitar work, and bold ideas that would later influence punk and alternative rock.

Genre/s: Classic Rock, Punk, Soul
For Fans Of: Lou Reed, T. Rex
Official Release Date: May 24, 1974
Notes: Bowie produced the album himself and handled much of the guitar work.
