Released in 1980, this double LP was a patchwork farewell from a group that was falling apart. The Eagles had split up in spirit, if not on paper, and the album was stitched together from performances recorded between 1976 and 1980 at venues like The Forum and Long Beach Arena in California. Glenn Frey and Don Henley weren’t even in the same city during mixing. The tapes were flown coast to coast to finish the the album. Despite the drama, the music still shines, and classics like “Hotel California,” “Take It to the Limit,” and “New Kid in Town” capture the band’s tight musicianship and signature harmonies. The album also features “Seven Bridges Road,” a fan favorite that opens with stunning a cappella vocals. “Eagles Live” wasn’t polished in the usual sense, but it was raw, real, and a snapshot of a band closing the curtain with style. Although they broke up in 1980, they reunited in 1994.
