Jackson Browne’s self-titled debut is a remarkably mature first album, capturing the thoughtful, slightly restless side of early-’70s songwriting. Released in 1972 on David Geffen’s newly formed Asylum Records, it introduced Jackson Browne as a songwriter who could make quiet, personal songs feel just as powerful as a rock hit. “Doctor My Eyes” became a Top 10 hit, while songs like “Song for Adam,” “Jamaica Say You Will” and “Rock Me on the Water” show the depth that would become his trademark. With warm acoustic playing, beautiful harmonies and an impressive cast of musicians, it’s an essential starting point for anyone who loves classic records.
