    Riptide is Robert Palmer’s slick, swaggering leap into full-blown '80s pop-rock stardom. Released in 1985, it’s the album that gave the world “Addicted to Love”, complete with that unforgettable music video of robotic, red-lipped models pretending to play instruments. But Riptide isn’t just about one hit, it’s a music lesson in style and flair. Palmer recorded it in the Bahamas with members of his former supergroup The Power Station, and producer Bernard Edwards (of Chic fame). They brought a funky backbone to the whole thing. The album mixes hard-hitting rock with glossy synths and even a couple unexpected covers, like Cherrelle’s “I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On,” which Palmer turned into a sultry anthem.
