    Turn Back is Toto’s bold middle finger to expectations. Released in 1981, it’s the album where the band ditched their polished pop-rock formula and went full throttle into arena rock territory. They teamed up with Geoff Workman, who had worked with Queen and Journey, to craft a sound that’s heavier, rawer, and almost rebellious in tone. The mix is famously strange, with nearly no mid-range, giving it a punchy, jagged edge. It features “Goodbye Elenore,” which became a hit in Japan but barely made a ripple in the U.S. The band didn’t even tour for it, and the record label was not amused. Still, it’s got cult status now, especially among fans who love Toto’s gutsier side.
