    Night Song finds Ahmad Jamal taking his sophisticated piano style into a much fuller, contemporary 1980 sound. Recorded in Hollywood, the Motown album surrounds Jamal with horns, guitars, keyboards, bass, drums and arranged accompaniment, giving familiar songs such as “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “Touch Me in the Morning” and the “Theme from M*A*S*H” a distinctly different setting from his classic small-group recordings. With eight tracks and a running time of around 40 minutes, it’s an intriguing snapshot of Jamal experimenting with the polished, crossover-friendly sound of the era while retaining his unique touch at the keyboard.
