Ringo’s Rotogravure is Ringo Starr’s fifth studio album and a brilliant little snapshot of the post-Beatles world in 1976. The album is packed with famous friends, with all three of Ringo’s former Beatles bandmates contributing songs or performances: Paul McCartney wrote “Pure Gold,” John Lennon wrote “Cookin’ (In the Kitchen of Love),” and George Harrison wrote “I’ll Still Love You.” Eric Clapton also turns up on guitar, making this feel like a proper rock star get-together rather than just another solo album. Produced by Arif Mardin, the record mixes upbeat rock ’n’ rollpop and soul with Ringo’s relaxed and friendly vocal style. It wasn’t a huge commercial success, but for Beatles fans and ’70s rock vinyl collectors, the real attraction is hearing Ringo surrounded by an incredible cast of musicians during the final period when all four Beatles were still actively involved in the same recording project.
