    Disraeli Gears is where Cream went from bluesy jam band to full-blown rock sorcerers. Released in 1967, this was their second studio album, and it was recorded in just five whirlwind days in New York City. The trio of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker were firing on all cylinders, blending blues roots with swirling, technicolor guitar tones and trippy lyrics. “Sunshine of Your Love” came out of this session, and it’s got one of the most iconic riffs in rock history, born from a late-night jam and a flash of inspiration. The album’s name? A hilarious mispronunciation of “derailleur gears” by their roadie, which stuck because it sounded so bizarre and British.
