    Percussion Explosion!, released in 1978, is when Herman Kelly & Life took Miami’s funk scene and cranked it up with pure rhythm-first energy. The album is best known for “Dance to the Drummer’s Beat,” a track built around tight percussion, rubbery bass, and a groove that DJs later fell in love with for sampling. Even though the group didn’t stick around long, this record is like a jam session that accidentally turned into a cult classic. Recorded between Miami and Brazil, it's packed with disco & funk attitude, and driven by Kelly’s obsession with drums.
