A New World Record is where ELO really hit its stride, combining Jeff Lynne’s smooth songwriting with soaring strings, rock guitars, and layers of studio mastering. Released in 1976, the album is packed with songs that still have that ring to them, including “Livin’ Thing,” “Telephone Line,” “Rockaria!,” and ELO’s energetic take on “Do Ya.” With just nine tracks and a running time of around 36 minutes, it’s a tight, polished album that shows how ELO could make elaborate music feel remarkably easy to enjoy.

Genre/s: Classic Rock, Pop Rock
For Fans Of: The Beatles, Supertramp, 10cc, Queen, Alan Parsons Project
Official Release Date: October 15, 1976
