    Folk Songs Of Our Land finds Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and The Foggy Mountain Boys digging into the American folk and country songs that helped shape bluegrass. Originally released by Columbia in 1962, the album mixes traditional material with songs from Woody Guthrie, A.P. Carter and Merle Travis, including the bluegrass friendly versions of “This Land Is Your Land” and “Nine Pound Hammer.” Flatt’s warm, unique vocals and Scruggs’ lightning fast banjo give these old songs plenty of drive, while the rest of the band fills out the sound with mandolin, fiddle, bass, dobro and guitar. For anyone wanting to hear classic bluegrass at the point where traditional folk music, country and the emerging folk revival met, this is a particularly enjoyable place to start.
