Flying Start is where funk, smooth soul, and jazz musicianship come together in one seriously feel-good record. It's The Blackbyrds’ second album and it blends infectious basslines, crisp drums, bright horns, and mellow melodies into a sound that feels very equally balanced. Featuring the standout hit “Walking in Rhythm,” alongside the funky “The Baby” and the spacey “Spaced Out,” this album delivers a great symmetry of soulful warmth and contagious rhythm. It’s an excellent pick for fans of classic ’70s jazz and funk, and the sounds that would later inspire generations of hip-hop.

For Fans Of: Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers, Kool & the Gang
