    “Band of Gypsys” is a raw, high-energy live album by Jimi Hendrix that shows him moving away from his earlier psychedelic rock style into something looser, funkier, and more rhythm-driven. Recorded over two nights at the Fillmore East in New York during New Year’s 1969–1970, it captures Hendrix leading a new trio with bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles instead of The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The performances feel looser and more improvisational, with longer jams and a heavier groove focus, especially on the powerful “Machine Gun,” which is widely considered one of Hendrix’s most intense live recordings. The album stands out because it blends classic rock, funk, blues, and soul into a gritty, unpredictable live sound.
