    Ohio Players Gold album is a snapshot of the band right in the middle of their prime. It was released in 1976, when their mix of funk & soul was dominating the airwaves. Even though it’s a compilation, it doesn’t feel like a quick cash‑grab. It pulls together the biggest moments from their Mercury era. The Skin Tight, Fire, Honey, and Contradiction years, when they were firing on all cylinders. To sweeten the deal, they added a couple of new tracks, including the disco‑leaning “Feel the Beat,” which showed they weren’t afraid to switch it up a bit. The album ended up being the last one of theirs to earn a gold certification, which makes the title seem ironically symbolic!
