The Heavy Metal soundtrack is a cult classic compilation album tied to the animated film Heavy Metal. Instead of being written by one artist, it pulls together big rock and metal acts of the late ’70s and early ’80s, stitching them into a loose musical journey that matches the film’s sci-fi and fantasy vibe. You’ll hear a mix of hard rock, early heavy metal, and progressive rock energy that is in moody in places, loud and chaotic in others. It features bands like Black Sabbath, Blue Öyster Cult, Cheap Trick, and Journey. It’s less a traditional soundtrack and more a curated “rock universe”. It was an animated film that sounded edgy and adult for its time.
