Billy Cobham’s The Best of Billy Cobham is a straight shot of 1970s jazz fusion at full power, with muscular drums, electric keyboards, guitar, bass and plenty of funk packed into one energetic collection. Billy Cobham, one of the defining drummers of the fusion era, had a knack for making his playing feel huge, and this compilation gives you a taste of the sound that made him such an important figure alongside artists like Miles Davis and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. It’s an easy record to recommend to anyone who wants jazz with more punch, volume and movement than the traditional small-combo approach.
