Kenny Rankin’s Like A Seed is a beautifully understated early-’70s album that blends gentle writing with touches of folk, soft rock, pop, and jazz. Rankin had a remarkably smooth and intimate voice, and the album has an easy, thoughtful feel that makes it ideal for relaxed listening. The record is particularly interesting for collectors because it includes Kenny Rankin’s own rendition of “Peaceful,” a song that would later become widely known through Helen Reddy’s version. With its warm arrangements, subtle musicianship, and sophisticated songwriting, Like A Seed is the kind of vinyl record that can easily become a favorite discovery for anyone crate digging beyond the better known albums of the era.
