The Temptations’ Sky’s the Limit is a soulful 1971 Motown classic that blends smooth harmonies, genuine love songs, and adventurous psychedelic soul. Produced by Norman Whitfield, the album showcases the group’s ability to move between gentle, romantic melodies and longer, groove-driven tracks, including the 12-minute version of “Smiling Faces Sometimes.” Its biggest highlight is “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me),” a No. 1 hit featuring Eddie Kendricks’ unique falsetto. This album also marks the final Temptations studio album featuring Kendricks before he left for a solo career, making it a particularly meaningful chapter in the group’s history. With its mix of classic Motown sweetness and deeper, funkier sounds, Sky’s the Limit is an excellent pick for soul vinyl collectors and fans of vintage R&B vinyl.
