Aretha’s Greatest Hits is a fantastic snapshot of the Queen of Soul at the height of her Atlantic Records years. Originally released in 1971, this 14-track collection brings together some of her most powerful performances, including “Respect,” “Chain of Fools,” “I Say a Little Prayer,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “Spanish Harlem,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” What makes this compilation especially appealing is the range of gospel-rooted soul, R&B, pop and blues all coming together around Aretha’s legendary voice, piano playing and emotional delivery. It’s an easy recommendation for anyone wanting an essential introduction to Aretha Franklin, or for seasoned soul fans looking for classic LPs that sound great on a turntable.
