Aretha Franklin’s Let Me in Your Life is a beautifully soulful 1974 album that finds the Queen of Soul balancing powerful emotion with a smoother, more polished ’70s sound. The album was a major success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard R&B album chart, and features three standout hit singles: “Until You Come Back to Me (That’s What I’m Gonna Do),” “I’m in Love” and “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing.” Aretha puts her own stamp on songs by Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Bobby Womack and Leon Russell, while also contributing two originals. From the gentle heartbreak of “Until You Come Back to Me” to the stunning closing performance of “A Song for You,” this is Aretha Franklin at her most warm, intimate and emotionally direct. It's an excellent choice for anyone wanting to hear why her ’70s Atlantic recordings deserve a place alongside her legendary ’60s work.
